About 250 people turned out on the Nashos Memorial Dedication Day.
The Dedication started with a march in led by a World War II jeep carrying those with walking disabilities, the Newcastle Re-Enactment Group complete with 303 rifles and fixed bayonets, the army cadet unit and about 70 ex-Nashos.
The parade was let by the RSM Kim McGraw.
The plaque was unveiled by Greg Laird RSL Sub-branch President and Nashos patron as well as Neil Scott, State Vice President of National Servicemen’s Association.
Wreaths and floral tributes that were placed to remember those who were killed in action and those who have since died.
The most touching moment for Port Macquarie National Servicemen’s Association’s Graham Smith was when the widow’s went up and laid a flower for their departed husband.
“Cancer and illness is touching everyone and if this memorial makes it easier or comforts just one person it has been worth while,” he said.
“When Last Post sounded it made the hairs on the back of the neck stand up.”
