Futsal’s finest out for goals at finals

Indoor soccer fans were out in force to get a glimpse of the hottest futsal action in town.
The Vikings Winter Competition finals were held on Monday, September 19  at the Port Macquarie Indoor Stadium, with the results bringing out the best in one and all.

Women’s Final
Yahoos v Akwards:  score 2-1.  Yahoos were the underdogs going into the game but managed to score two goals in the first half. Akwards came back with relentless pressure to score a goal.
Yahoos needed to hold steady and with many scrambles in defence ran out winners.

Mixed Final
Wannabees v BSK: score 8-2.  The mixed final scoreline does not show the nature of the game. BSK made many scoring chances but were no match for Wannabees on the night. Travis Bishop led his team well to take out the game 8-2.
Men’s B Grade Final
Pizza Mania v Woolies: score 6-4.  This final was played out by the top two teams. The games during the season were always close and the final was no exception. Pizza Mania led the game at half-time 2-1.
Early in the second half many good shots were saved by both keepers. Woolies scored an early goal,  which set the game to a faster pace than it already was, hard tackles, long shots, short passing. The Pizza Mania team scored again by short passing to create great goals. Woolies fought hard but couldn’t bridge the gap, going down 6—4. Well done to both teams.

Men’s A Grade Final
Academy Boys v Rivermark Redbacks: Score 4-2.
The A grade final started with neither team creating many scoring chances. The Academy team started to get some shots on goal which were brilliantly saved by the Rivermark goalie, while at the other end, the shots were not on target, which showed a 2-nil score at half-time.
The Rivermark team worked hard to try and get back into the game. Still their shots were being saved or wide of target. When the academy team scored again, it was looking like it was going to be an easy win. Rivermark then scored to be on the board and the pressure was on. With the score at 3-1 with not long to go, both teams were rushing their game and they scored another goal each. This game had many great saves, good one-on-one contests with the result going 4-2 to the Academy team.
Thank you to the referees Dave Gilbert, Matt Warner and Andrew King, also to all the referees during the season. A thank you to the night managers and all the parents and players that make futsal a success.
