Bob and Irene Munro were in the middle of making a roast dinner when a 60-foot gum tree came crashing through the front of their home last Thursday night.
They were victims of a vicious storm that rocked the region in the early evening, leaving flooded roadways and fallen trees and debris in its wake.
Local State Emergency Service (SES) crews were called out to five incidents on par with the Munros’.
“Bob and I were sitting in the back room when we heard an almighty bang and felt the whole house shake,” Mrs Munro said.
“I just feel blessed that no one was hurt and want to express my thanks to the SES that worked until late in the night to ensure that all the tarps were in place.”
Also victim to the storm was the pump house at Emerald Downs Golf Course which controls the sprinkler system for the first nine holes.
The shed and its contents were destroyed by a fallen tree.
Only minutes before the limb came crashing down, the sons of Managing Director Ashley Roods were working on the pump.
“Whilst we can fix metal, I don’t want to think what would have been the result if the boys were still working,” Mr Roods said.
More than 1000 residents were also left without power after the estimated 90km/h wind gusts swept through the region.
