This Saturday only: African drum workshops and performance in Port

Sibo Bangoura is one of Australia’s leading West African percussionists.
Born into a Griot (musicians) family in Guinea, with his mother a singer and his father a master Balafonist, he played alongside internationally acclaimed Bocca Camara from a young age.
Talented and dedicated to his music, Sibo came to travel the world and is now based in Sydney.
He is currently lead soloist to newly formed Sydney group Keyim Ba (recently awarded the Kultour Touring grant for 2012), Senegalese group Pape MBaye and Chosani Afrique, Sydney’s Drum Circle Events, percussionist for Afro Moses and plays alongside his award – winning brother Epizo Bangoura on his visits to Australia and Japan.
Sibo recently held a principal role in the very successful stage musical event Rhythm Safari and is involved in projects around Australia  – drum/dance workshops, festivals, collaborating with Aboriginal performers and performing with various well known upcoming Australian artists such as Miriam Lieberman and Declan Kelly.
On Saturday, October 15, Sibo, along with Rachel Bangoura and members of KeyimBA, will be running Drum and Dance worlshops.
Drum (beginners) 11am — 12.30pm ($25) and dance (open) 1.30pm — 3pm. ($20), drum (advanced) 3.30pm-5pm or $40 for any two.
The performance kicks off ,with doors open at  7pm, by Sibo’s band KEYIM BA, featuring, drumkit, kora, talking drum, bass-lead guitar, doun douns djembe and vocals.
Blending a mix of high energy African drumming funky grooves, with a more contemporary flavour.
Workshops  and performance will be held at Dance Studio 8, 8 Milton Circuit, Port Macquarie.
