How can a teacher be in two places at once? Easy.
He or she just hooks up to new technology and takes their students to a “Connected Classroom”.
For the uninitiated, a connected classroom works like a video conference where students in two schools, in two different classrooms, can see and communicate with each other and their teacher.
Both classrooms are ‘on the air’ at the same time.
The Hastings Valley Community of Schools (HVCS) is currently using this technology to offer an extended curriculum to students at both Westport High School and Port Macquarie High School.
Geography, Japanese and Metals are three subjects where students from both high schools make up the numbers for these classes to run.
HVCS is working on developing new subjects for next year to be able to continue offering a wider curriculum to senior students.
