In response to (Long-winded letters, October 20) Mike Feeney’s critique of Don Campbell’s letter (written on October 13). He said of Mr Campbell’s letter that it was a turgid bloated hysterical missive. Mr Feeney also thinks that the many people who disapprove of the carbon tax and don’t believe in man-made global warming are ‘flat earth’ disciples. Don Campbell’s letter was informative and certainly not hysterical.
I am pleased that all political views can be published in ‘The Independent’ but it is obvious by Mr Feeney’s comments that he welcomes the carbon tax that we are stuck with.
There have been many long, pro-carbon tax letters that I have had to wade through, but some letters can’t be shortened due to the amount of technical information contained in them. The carbon tax proponents often resort to exaggeration in expressing their feelings for those who are against their philosophy.
As an aside, Margaret Thatcher who started the IPCC has recanted most of her former views on climate change. She stated in her 2003 book “Statecraft” that “the new dogma about climate change has swept through the left of centre governing classes” and warns that the international effort to tackle climate change “provides a marvellous excuse for worldwide, supra-national socialism”. Food for thought…
