Man arrested over Wauchope robbery

Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have arrested a man in relation to the 2005 armed robbery of a Wauchope country club.
About 9.40pm on Thursday, November 10, 2005, two men wearing balaclavas and armed with a pistol and a baseball bat allegedly threatened staff at the club before escaping with a sum of cash.
Detectives have been investigating the robbery under Strike Force Hutley and last Wednesday arrested a 33-year-old man outside Forster Local Court.
He has been taken to Taree Police Station where he is assisting detectives with their inquiries. Police expect to charge him with armed robbery in company.
Meanwhile, Strike Force Hutley detectives are continuing to investigate whether there are any links between the 2005 robbery and one that occurred at the same club on the night of Wednesday, July 6, 2011.
During that incident, the duty manager was confronted inside the club after closing by three people with their faces covered, who demanded cash.
The manager was attacked with a knife and received treatment to his injuries at Port Macquarie Base Hospital. The trio fled empty-handed.
Police earlier this week released a COM-FIT of a man they want to speak to in relation to that incident and are still hoping to identify him. He’s described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late thirties, about 175-180cm tall with a medium build and short brown hair.
Detectives ask anyone who recognises the man or has information about either of the robberies to contact them via Crime Stoppers on
1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously.
