On Saturday, October 29, the Saints Netball Club Division 5 grand finalist team ‘Port Macquarie Surf School’ came from riding high on a wave of success to be challenged by some different waves as the team’s sponsor, the ‘Port Macquarie Surf School’, put on a surfing session for them.
This time the girls didn’t rely on their good shooting, passing and defending, but called on their balance, perseverance and sense of humour. Surf coach Jenny Arnold and surf school boss Peter Hudson gave the team a good workout on the waves.
Team coach, Ken Blacker, said there was some natural talent evident and some of the girls were becoming converts and going to continue with surfing. He said it was a good pre-season conditioner for the 2012 netball season.
Three awards were given on the day: Erin Smith for the ‘Longest upright ride’, Gabby Dowrick for the most entertaining ride ‘Doing a sitting head shoulder dance ride’ and Tahlia Hunter who was the most persistent ‘Not wanting to stop and last to get out of the water’.
The team was very thankful to the Port Macquarie Surf School for their support and fun sponsorship.
