The creative side of our kids came to the fore at an Arts Immersion Day at of St Peter’s Primary School last weekend.
Spokeswoman Penny McKee said 142 students attended the event “with bells on and bright orange Arts Immersion Day shirts”.
“With a troupe of talented and generous tutors including Paul Dawson from Hydrophotographics, Nic Osborn from Art Play Australia and Chris Waals from ‘That’s Entertainment’, 142 students immersed themselves in painting, piano, singing, drama, woodwork, metalwork, green screen, photo-graphy, craft, visual arts and guitar,” she said.
“It was extra special to have Newman Technical College student Kristin Nocelli back conducting a singing workshop for the second year in a row.
“Remnants of the day are still warming the hearts of those involved and inhabiting the front lawn of St Peter’s Primary School in the form of a storybook-like installation from Art Play Australia’s Nic Osborn and her brood of edgy visual arts students.
“Skye Frost from The Glasshouse officially declared the day open.
“The day was vibrant, energetic, and abuzz with children sharing ideas and learning new skills.”
As volunteers for the day, the group of tutors came from all parts of the Port Macquarie community, Penny said.
“As planned, I think we achieved our goal, and that was total immersion in a new art form, just for the love of it,” she said.
“The day proved we have a promising population of artists in our midst.”
