The remodelling work at Sea Acres Rainforest Centre officially opened on Sunday.
Opening the new works, Birapi representative Uncle Bill O’Brien said the renovations include a new visitor information area which provides options for visitors looking to experience the wonderful natural and cultural attractions of the Hastings.
“The stunning new Sea Acres Rainforest Centre has much to offer visitors looking to experience our incredible natural and cultural heritage,” Uncle Bill said.
“They can be via outstanding facilities at Sea Acres or at any of the other spectacular parks and reserves throughout the region, from the coast to the hinterland,” he said.
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) North Coast Region Manager Alan Jeffery said the $750,000 facelift provides a renewed rainforest experience along the 1.3km subtropical rainforest elevated walkway as well as facilitating visitor experiences in other Hastings valley national parks.
“The reaction from visitors has been described as ‘jaw dropping’. They say they can’t believe the changes from the old building,” Mr Jeffery said.
“Changes include a new gift shop area and administration area combined with an extended restaurant deck area.
“Work started in March this year and the results provide a stunning addition to the tourist experience at Port Macquarie and further afield.
“Visitors can use the boardwalk, browse the specialty shop where they can also buy park passes and find all the information for their next visit to a national park,” he said.
Sea Acres Rainforest Centre is open 9.00am — 4.30pm, seven days a week.
“The ever-popular Rainforest Café is open from 9am — 4.00pm for a delicious coffee and cake or a delectable meal,” Mr Jeffery said.
Speaking at the launch, Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said, “Sea Acres Rainforest Centre is an inspiring ecotourism destination where everyone can experience the tranquil beauty of this special place, learn about its cultural and conservation significance and enjoy its excellent food and shopping.”
The construction was undertaken by Port Macquarie company Gary Bannister Constructions Pty Ltd.
