The Pacific Highway at Kempsey is one of many flood-affected roadways on the Mid-North Coast.
And, with excessively heavy rain of late, motorists are being urged to exercise additional care and caution and expect delays due to the heavy downpours that are currently hitting the region.
Transport Management Centre in NSW recommended:
• Motorists are advised to slow down and increase the distance between themselves and the vehicles ahead.
• Drive with extra care in all aspects of driving. This includes accelerating and steering smoothly. Avoid heavy braking in slippery conditions.
• Increase visibility – Motorists should leave their lights on so others can see them when visibility is poor.
• Keep an eye out for water and debris over the road. If motorists come across water over the road it is recommended that they reduce their speed back to 30-40 km/h.
Additionally, motorists should allow additional travel time due to additional traffic congestion as a result of wet weather.
