On Sunday, November 27, the Port Macquarie Triathlon Club put the spotlight on our local women with its third annual running of its Women Only Triathlon.
The event was once again generously supported by Lorna Jane and Challenge Fitness and featured a challenging 250m swim, 9km bike and 2.5km run. Despite the poor weather on the day prior, sunny skies greeted 43 starters, including an impressive number of first-timers all ready to race. And race they did, with all competitors comfortably completing the event
In warm and humid conditions, Lorna Jane kept the crowd well hydrated with their water bottles and gift bags. And, while the Challenge Fitness crew were unable to complete their post-race yoga session due to the soggy conditions, they offered a prize of a three-month free gym membership which was picked up by new-comer Sara Davis.
Gordon Street Cycles provided some inspiration for the women with a range of women-specific clothing and new bikes on display. And professional photographer, Nashyspix, worked overtime to capture the event from every possible angle, with the promise that everyone would feature in at least one of the shots from the day. Nashyspix are offereing free photos from the event for every competitor, and these can be viewed and ordered on-line from www.nashyspix.com.au
A number of competitors expressed interest in the remainder of the Tri Club season, of which there are nine races remaining.
Prospective members will discover they can compete over this same race distance at any of the events in the Club’s summer race calendar, and there’ll be just as much encouragement and fun at each one of the Club’s events, as experienced on Sunday.
