Resident Samantha Purdy said the Hasting Co-op was the hub of the community and was on site on Friday to mark the Wauchope company’s 95th birthday.
She said it gives great opportunities for kids to get their first shot at employment.
Samantha worked for the co-op for 15 years before starting her own family.
“I used to ride the novelty horse for 20 cents, out the front of the co-op, back when I was a little kid. The same horse is still working today and it’s still only 20 cents,” she said.
Samantha joined a throng of residents, reliving memories, at the exciting event at the Department Store (which has been running for 40 years).
The official plaque was unveiled by Neil Porter of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
A commemorative book to celebrate the Co-op’s 95 years was also unveiled and is still opened to be signed.
It will be added to the 100th year book when centenary celebrations take place in 2016.
