Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams has urged the State Government to urgently undertake dredging of the Manning River.
“With the continuing deterioration of the river, I have written to and met with the Minister for Primary Industries, the Hon Katrina Hodgkinson, to request that dredging be carried out as a matter of urgency.
“I recently inspected the Manning River at Harrington and was alarmed at the build up of sand.
“At the current rate of deterioration, it is feared the river will be impassable within the next month which will have an intolerable impact on business and tourism in the Manning Valley.
“I have asked the Minister to urgently consider approving immediate dredging of the Manning River to keep it open,” Mrs Williams said.
