Picture perfect

When Sally Davidson looks into her first grandchild’s eyes she is mesmerised by their purity and his wondrous innocence.
She said those same emotions spurred her to enter the amazing photo (pictured) of five-month-old Joshua James Davidson in the Port Macquarie Independent newspaper’s Picture Perfect Christmas Photo Competition.
“My lovely daughter-in-law, Kristina, took this photo of her baby son and to me, this picture represents the real joy of Christmas,” she said.
“Christmas is all about a baby, a very special baby who was born in a manger – a baby who brings great joy to the world; a baby who promises kindness, forgiveness and love.
“This is Joshua’s first Christmas and by gazing into his beautiful blue eyes, we can see all that is good and simple and just in the world.
“This Christmas, I urge everyone, just as the shepherds did long ago, to look into a baby’s eyes and be at peace.”
Sally’s gorgeous photo has been selected as the winning picture of our newspaper’s extremely popular Christmas Photo Competition (see scores of other entries on the following pages).
Sally, who resides in our beautiful Port Macquarie with her husband Ken, now has her very own keepsake front page of the Independent in this special Christmas edition, going to over 18,000 homes and businesses in the region.
So too, she has won a $300 voucher thanks to our friends at Harvey Norman.
Harvey Norman franchisee Pat Slack-Smith said the spirit of giving at Christmas was what his business encapsulates, and hence he was more than happy to donate the $300 gift voucher.
Sally said this only one of the many spellbinding photos her daughter-in-law, Kristina, has taken.
“She is a talented photographer and is hoping to start her own business,” she said.
“She is so thrilled to have won and it has given her great encouragement.
“The $300 voucher is also perfect, as she can now use it to buy some photographic equipment.
“Kristina was brought up in Bosnia during the war torn years and she is able to look at things from a different perspective – an incredibly moving one.
“What she captures in photos, like this one of baby Joshua, is amazing.”
The Independent’s team sends out a big congratulations to Sally.
We also wish you all a very merry Christmas and the happiest New Year.
