Armed with virtuosity and a van load of instruments, The Bearded Gypsy Band throw caution to the wind and head east to stir up some feverish dancing. Though these wild South Australian gypsies look deceptively young and cleanshaven, don’t be fooled! They can crank out some fiesty gypsy flavoured tunes that will have toes tapping, heads nodding and bodies moving. Inspired by the likes of Django Reinhardt and folk music from around the planet, The Bearded Gypsy Band play an eclectic mix of tearaway original tunes with Celtic, Jazz, Blues, Roots and gypsy influences. They exhibit masterful performance and original composition skills as they play with a musical authority and clarity seemingly beyond their years.
With the Illawarra Folk Festival, WOMADelaide, Brunswick Music Festival, National Folk Festival and Apollo Bay Music Festival on their agenda for the first few months of 2012, these gypsies are not to be missed (and they do this between their studies at university and school!)
The Bearded Gypsie Band will be playing at Finnians Tavern, Port Macquarie, on Sunday, January 8.
Having captured the hearts of audiences from the Snowy Mountains Music Festival through to the clandestine Alley-Way gigs of Adelaide, and with their debut album under their belt, these gypsies will surprise and delight those they encounter on their travels.
