The first Australian Grandparent of the Year Award was presented to Port Macquarie’s Gerry Brandwood recently at the Port Macquarie Library.
Gerry is a mainstay in 6-year-old Samuel’s life, being a constant in his grandson’s day-to-day routine, his schooling and extra-curricular activities.
So much so, he has been awarded the 2011 Community Service Grandparent Of The Year nationwide accolade.
This year’s competition was judged by grandchildren from across Australia who volunteered to take part.
Chris Doney of Derwent Park, Tasmania, was also given the award.
The award was formatted in conjunction with Grandparents Day Magazine.
Gerry was presented his award by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Administrator Neil Porter.
