Until just a few short years ago, supporters of a carbon tax seemed to have a fervent reverence for the term “global warming’. We rarely see them using that term now. Nor did your erstwhile correspondent, Mr Lockhart, use it either (Your Letters 22/12). Their revered term now – and the one used by Mr Lockhart – is “climate change’. So whether there’s a ten-year drought, or whether there are massive flood-rains, “climate change’ is the cause, and humans are all to blame. They can’t go wrong!
Mr Lockhart mentioned there are currently “many scientists who are working” on “more detail” on the science of climate change (we’ve certainly heard precious little in over twenty years!). But please allow me to make an observation, and pose a question or two. There were several centuries of global warming known as “The Medieval Warming’, which ended in the sixteenth century when the “Little Ice Age’ started. That’s all well documented history. But what caused that “Medieval Warming’, Mr Lockhart, when there was no industrial activity and therefore no (anthropogenic) industrial co2?
Furthermore, what was the cause of the three-decade period of global cooling from the 1940’s to the 1970’s while there was intense industrial activity during those Post-War years of reconstruction? It ended in the late 1970’s just after warnings of an impending new Ice Age. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to ascertain that there has to be some other cause for global warming than human-induced co2. You only have to do a little bit of homework.
There have been many documented cycles of global warming and cooling over the centuries, and that is genuine “climate change’. But the UN sponsored IPCC denies it in their charts, graphs and papers. It is obvious that they have their own agenda. But more and more people are now becoming informed of the genuine “climate change’.
And for the record, Mr Lockhart, an antonym for “sceptical’ is “gullible’!
