Visitors and locals this summer will find the Glasshouse buzzing with plenty of fun activities and cultural experiences to enjoy as alternatives to a day at the beach.
From January 3 to February 29, the Glasshouse Summerfest 2012 will offer a huge selection of free and inexpensive offerings for kids and families, plus after-dark entertainment to wind down after a long summer’s day.
Looking for a great night out? Glasshouse concerts include guitar superstar Joe Robinson, John Waters’ acclaimed tribute to John Lennon and flamenco sensation straight from Sydney Opera House, Arrebato Ensemble. Or, after a hot day at the beach, chill out at the Summerfest Glasshouse Bar on a Thursday night until 8pm – and catch a free Gallery Curator talk at 6pm.
Keep the kids entertained with a variety of two-hour workshops for 6-12 year olds: painting, tie-dying, printmaking, sculpting, yoga and more. Let the kids experiment at free Saturday morning Essential Energy Kids Spot art workshops, and Sunday free “arty afternoons’. There are even one hour fun music sessions for the under-threes on Fridays (tickets $8.50).
Fancy a movie? Take the kids to Little Big Shots International Film Festival for Kids with lots of variety for 2-12 year olds from cartoons to documentaries and, amazingly, child-produced movies. Or for a free family night under the stars, take a picnic and enjoy Hastings Moonlight Movies showing popular films for all ages.
Plus there are lots of tours, art exhibitions, student and adult workshops and forecourt markets to enjoy.
Glasshouse Port Macquarie Manager Joe Conneely said Glasshouse was proud to provide a vast array of quality performances to people of all ages and to suit all budgets.
“Port Macquarie is a tourist mecca during the summer months with families and visitors flocking to the coastal town. The Glasshouse recognises the need to cater for these groups and extend the offering of available leisure activities “beyond the beach”,” Mr Conneely said.
“Our Summerfest program is about providing alternatives to the beach by offering low-cost and/or free family fun, as well as outings for the cultural tourist.
