One of Port Macquarie’s mental health charities is holding regular sausage sizzles on the second Saturday of the month to raise funds for Endeavour Clubhouse.
The family-friendly feasts are being held at Emerald Downs Shopping Centre supporting a special cause – future employment for the mentally ill of the town.
The sausage sizzles will take place from 8am to 12pm and all proceeds will go towards Endeavour Clubhouse (auspiced by the Schizophrenia fellowship of NSW) who are currently getting ready to start building their custom designed new clubhouse at Hamilton Green.
Port Macquarie will be one of the few regional centres in New South Wales to have such a clubhouse.
Endeavour is also continuing its popular raffle over the summer months with fabulous prizes donated by local businesses.
For the month of January there is a first prize on offer of a surfboard donated by FFD Surfboards valued at $720.
The prize draw is on February 6 at 5.30pm at the Macquarie Hotel.
The winner of the surfboard will also receive accessories of a leg rope, a mat and a surfing shirt donated by BMD Surfboards of Laurieton.
The Clubhouse spokesperson said the NSW Government has promised, though not yet delivered, of ongoing funding for a clubhouse in Port Macquarie.
However, in late 2010, the NSW buildings fund has granted the charity money for a building, and the local council has given Endeavour Clubhouse grants for furniture, the Clubhouse spokesperson said.
Also many dedicated fundraisers continue, despite what decisions government makes, to raise funds through various ventures such as this one, it was stated.
