Want to know what really happens when there’s danger at sea?
Port Macquarie Marine Rescue will be holding an open day for the general public on Australia Day today, January 26 between 10.30am and 4.30pm.
The boat shed off Buller Street will be open between these times.
People will be able to view and board the Rescue vessels, with crews available to answer any questions.
The various radios will be in operation and the public can see first-hand how radio calls between the base and vessels at sea are handled.
Also on display will be first aid equipment, a helicopter lift stretcher, charts, life rafts and knot tying instructions.
Information on Port Macquarie Marine Rescue’s Bar Crossing courses will also be available.
Marine Rescue spokesman Geoff Shelton said the open day is also an opportunity for anybody interested in joining the group either as boat crew or radio operator to find out more about the requirements and commitment of being a volunteer in this very worthwhile organisation.
Members will also be available to provide information to boaties who may be interested in joining the Marine Rescue’s safety PM Club.
A sausage sizzle with drinks will be available.
Everybody is welcome on the day including families and children.
