Life’s a song for “blooming’ orchestra

The impression that Sinfonia Mid North Coast has gained momentum in the last year and is beginning to bloom was expressed at the regional orchestra’s AGM recently.
Outgoing president Rob Stephens confirmed in his three years’ tenure: the continuing improvement of the organisation’s financial position, the growth in the orchestra and its musical development under James Hannah, the scholarship program – now in its third year, and Sinfonia’s growing audience support in all the communities where we’ve performed.
“I see a bright and exciting future for Sinfonia,” Mr Stephens said.
This was echoed in James Hannah’s conductor’s report where he cited the contributions made by various individuals including Iain Pole as assistant conductor, Juen VanHand as leader, Dorothy Mowat as librarian, and the board members combined, all leading to Sinfonia’s success.
The elections for the new board were held with the following people taking up positions for 2012: Anne-Marie Barnett as president; Graeme Mowat as vice-president; Cheryl Meyer as secretary; and Lorne Henry as the new treasurer.
The rest of the board includes: Barry Bates, David Bond, Natasha French, John Kellaway, Dorothy Mowat, and Leigh Vaughan.
Kevan Millican has taken over from Rob Stephens as concert manager; Jara Stinson was re-appointed as youth representative, Natasha French agreed to fill the post of orchestra personnel officer, and Jim Fletcher will take over newsletter production.
