Ratepayers have received notice of council’s intention to begin fluoridating the drinking water supply for the Wauchope, Port Macquarie and Camden Haven areas, commencing on February 21, 2012.
Many local citizens are outraged at the prospect of being mass medicated without having given their consent. It is unethical and a gross injustice to be forced to drink water that is intentionally adulterated with a toxic waste product from the superphosphate industry.
Local anti-fluoride fighters may be down but they are not defeated. Citizens Against Fluoride Inc. (CAF Inc.) is preparing a legal challenge against the council for inadequate community consultation and neglecting to consider the effects of fluoride on the environment, as required in the NSW EP&A Act. Federal consumer laws also offer us protection from accepting products that contain toxic substances. Fluoridated water is one such product.
