Swans swoop on Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie played host to Sydney Swans players Heath Grundy, Alex Johnson, Tommy Walsh and Jed Lamb last week as part of the AFL’s annual Australia Post Community Camps.
The players were kept busy over their two day stay visiting local primary schools, meeting local AFL enthusiasts and hosting Auskick clinics for excited participants.
The players visited over 16 schools on the Mid North Coast spreading the AFL word to over 3000 students.
Last Tuesday afternoon at Westport Park local primary aged children turned up to a free Auskick Super clinic, the children excited at the chance to get up close and personal with their AFL heroes. The Swans players were more than happy to provide participants with tips on kicking and handballing, to pose for a photo or to sign autographs.
Port Macquarie Junior AFL (PMJAFL) club helped run the Auskick Super clinic and were impressed with the hands on involvement of the Swans players.
“Having the Swans players visit Port Macquarie is fantastic,” PMJAFL Auskick Coordinator Adrian McClure said.
“The players’ enthusiasm to engage the participants was great, with all the kids enjoying the afternoon. PMJAFL would like to thank the players for their involvement and support of AFL in regional centres.”
PMJAFL player Lewis Carroll was the lucky winner of the signed Sydney Swans jumper on the night for registering for the 2012 season.
PMJAFL’s next registration will also be the club’s come “n’ try night for anyone interested in having a go at AFL on Friday, March 9 from 4.30pm to 6pm at Stuart Park, Woods St, Port Macquarie. All interested players are invited to attend with PMJAFL catering for all players aged from five to 15 years, Auskick u7s and 9s, also junior and youth teams in u11, u13 and u15.
