Respect MPs, PM

I support the comments made by Shane Stelzer and Mike Feeney (Independent March 15). I get tired of the irrational comments made by Ray Hadley and Alan Jones on their radio programs. I listen to them occasionally because much of their comments on non-political issues are entertaining, but Hadley’s continual barrage against Rob Oakeshott borders on trying to brain-wash his audience and Alan Jones’s comments on our Prime Minister are insulting in the extreme. You may not like her politics, and some of her policies are open to criticism, but she should be respected as the elected leader of our country and command respect, particularly from the media.
Before moving to Port Macquarie ten years ago, I had never voted for an Independent, but it soon became clear that Rob Oakeshott had been doing an outstanding job and commanded a very large percentage of the vote, and I have voted for him at every election that he has contested, both State and Federal. He has in the past and continues to do a lot for his local community.
The people who criticise Rob for siding with Labor after the last election have very short memories. I am amazed at the number of people who seem to blame Rob for the Coalition losing the last Federal election. They lost that election because not enough people voted for them!
As for the next election, I can only hope that local voters concentrate on choosing the person that can do most for the Lyne electorate. There is nobody on the horizon who would do a better job than our local member.
