Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams, said the past 12 months had seen some significant results for our local electorate as well as across NSW, as her first anniversary as MP dawned this week.
“The dedication of Westport Park to public ownership and the announcement that a school will finally be built at Lake Cathie are just two major successes I have been able to achieve in my first year as an MP,” Mrs Williams said.
“The future of Westport Park is now very secure and can never be developed, which is something our local community had been calling for.
“After many years of fighting to convince former Education Ministers and Premiers that we needed a new school at Lake Cathie, Education Minister Adrian Piccoli agreed with me and a new public school will open in time for first term 2015.
“Both of those issues, on top of the start of planning for the upgraded Port Macquarie Base Hospital, the opening of the new Oxley Highway, securing over $100 million in the State Budget for the electorate, as well as hosting the Premier and Ministers for a Community Cabinet meeting in Port Macquarie last year are all major achievements.
“At a state level, the Liberals & Nationals Government have delivered an extra $468 million to fast-track the Pacific Highway upgrade, seen 1011 new nurses enter our health system, opened 565 more hospital beds and will soon see 550 new police officers protecting our communities,” Mrs Williams said.
“There is still a lot of work to be done right across the Port Macquarie electorate, but I think my staff and I have made a strong start and we will continue to work hard for this fantastic community,” Mrs Williams said.
