Kayaker’s body found

The body of a man was recovered at Valla Beach on Tuesday afternoon, now known to be that of a kayaker who went missing on Sunday.
About 2:30pm on April 8, 24-year-old Nathan Copeland got into difficulty after falling off his kayak in the surf off Valla Beach, near Deep Creek.
Nathan’s 26-year-old friend went to his aid, however, got into difficulty and was rescued by another man.
Police attached to the Mid North Coast Local Area Command, with the assistance of other emergency services, launched an extensive air, land and sea search for Nathan.
The search was suspended shortly after 5.30pm on Sunday due to poor light but resumed on Monday.
About 12:50pm on Tuesday a member of the public reported seeing the body of a man floating in the water north of Valla Beach.
Local Surf Lifesavers retrieved the man’s body and brought him to shore where they were met by police.
The man was taken to Macksville Hospital where he was formally identified by relatives as Nathan Copeland on Tuesday afternoon.
Police are preparing a report for the information of the Coroner.
