Port junior footy legend recognised as good sport

Young NRL player Jack Sheaves has been announced as a weekly finalist in the McDonald’s and 2GB Good Sports competition with his outstanding sportsmanship earning him a Pro Sports memorabilia pack.
Running until August 15, the McDonald’s and 2GB Good Sports competition aims to encourage recognition of junior football players across NSW who have demonstrated respect and fairness on the field.
Nominated by his mother, Virginia Sheaves, 12-year-old Jack was chosen as last week’s finalists for his dedication to the sport including volunteering his weekends to help out at first grade Sharks games, doing odd jobs asked of him by committee members, during and after games.
“Jack is an absolute natural on the footy field and was fortunate enough to take out the Mod Player of the Year for 2011 as a member of the Port Macquarie Sharks Under 12s team. He always gives his team no less than 100 per cent at every game,” said Virginia.
“What I’m most proud of as a mum is the fact that he always encourages his team mates to not give up during a game, or if they are injured, he goes over and pats their back and reassures them,” she added.
McDonald’s Port Macquarie Licensee Jacqui Jones, is pleased to see local football players who have shown such tremendous dedication to the game be rewarded for their efforts.
“Jack a fantastic example for other young players across Port Macquarie and the rest of NSW and ACT,” said Jacqui.
“McDonald’s is proud to support young football stars like Jack at a grassroots level because we believe it is very important to encourage good sportsmanship like honesty and respect early on so they will help instill good values in not just their team mates, but other young sports stars,” said Jacqui.
Jack is the fourth of 15 competitors to be announced in the state-wide McDonald’s Good Sports competition.
The winner will be announced on 2GB on August 18 and, if Jack is selected as the overall winner, he will take home the ultimate NRL prize for both himself and his entire football team, including a place at an all-inclusive camp at the NSW Rugby League Academy, NRL merchandise and tickets to the 2012 NRL Grand Final.
The McDonald’s Good Sports competition runs until August 15, with finalists drawn weekly and the winner announced on 2GB’s Continuous Call Team program on August 18.
