Council Administer, Neil Porter, has formally withdrawn the sale of the Former Kew Visitor Information Centre (VIC).
The sale of the building was one of the primary issues discussed at last week’s Kew Information Session, attended by Mr Porter and other Council representatives.
“I understand the sale is a sensitive issue for local residents who envisage utilising the building as a VIC, and for this reason I am prepared to re-visit the decision to sell the site,” Mr Porter said.
Mr Porter said Council had received little interest in the property since placing the site of the former VIC on the market.
“Taking this into consideration, and after consultation with Kew residents and the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce, I have recommended that the property be withdrawn from sale,” Mr Porter said.
While Council is not interested in operating the VIC, the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce had previously expressed interest in leasing the property to operate the VIC and attract tourists off the highway into Kew and the Camden Haven.
Mr Porter recommended at the Council meeting last week that Council re-enter into negotiations with the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce to ascertain if they remain interested in operating the Kew Visitor Information Centre.
The future of the VIC building will be reviewed by Council by June 2014.
