The Westport Club has taken out three top industry awards, including Club of the Year.
At the 2012 ClubsNSW Awards for Excellence held on Friday night at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, in the medium club division, the Westport Club took out Club of the Year, Best Club Entertainment and Outstanding Community Leadership & Engagement Awards.
General Manager of The Westport Club, Anthony Westman, said he, along with the Board of Directors and Executive Management, was tremendously proud of the entire team at The Westport Club for their contribution to this wonderful achievement.
“Our entire team works tirelessly on the continuous improvement of our products, member relations, encouragement of sport and community support. We pride ourselves on being progressive and reliable and this type of recognition shows we are not only delivering, but delivering with excellence,” Mr Westman said.
Along with the Club of the Year title, The Westport Club also won the categories for Best Entertainment and Outstanding Community Leadership and Engagement; plus received a highly commended for Encouragement of Community Sport and Recreation.
The ClubsNSW Awards for Excellence is an annual event that recognises excellence in the management and operation of clubs in NSW and provides a benchmark for best practice within the industry.
“The fact we can receive such prestigious recognition for the second time in three years is a wonderful reflection of The Westport Club’s unique culture and the commitment to which we live our vision ‘to make a significant contribution to the quality of community life’,” said Mr Westman.
ClubsNSW CEO Anthony Ball congratulated the club on winning the three prestigious awards, saying they are leading the club industry.
“The transformation of The Westport Club in recent years has been nothing short of remarkable,” Mr Ball said.
“From a club that needed to amalgamate just to keep the doors open, it has grown into one of Australia’s leading clubs.
“What impresses me most is just how much the club achieves, given its medium size. Given all they do for the community, you would think they had hundreds of staff and tens of millions of dollars in income. The truth, of course, is very different.
“I highly commend all levels of staff for achieving their objectives throughout the year; you don’t improve or get to that level of excellence by doing the same thing.”
The ‘Club of the Year’ award is the most prestigious within the Clubs NSW Awards for Excellence and the most challenging for clubs to win, as they need to excel across several categories, and it is now the second time The Westport Club has been crowned with this honour.
Judges were impressed by the diverse entertainment options including live music, community events, member tours, social activities and promotions. The judges felt the Club upheld their position statement “Relax with us”, entertaining mostly for their 40- to 60-year-old female and family demographic.
The Westport Club also won the Outstanding Community Leadership & Engagement for upholding their motto and vision ‘to make a significant contribution to the quality of community life’.
The Club delivers this through a full-time Community Coordinator whose role is to liaise, develop and monitor relationships with The Westport Club’s community partners, local government and raising the profile of contributions in the community.
