Art back on the drawing board

The newly renovated Port Macquarie Art and Craft Centre will be officially reopened on Saturday, June 23, where enthusiastic artists and craftspeople will once again gather to practise their craft and share their knowledge and expertise.
See demonstrations of a wide range of art and crafts and be tempted by the beautifully handcrafted items on sale on the day.
The original Art and Craft Centre was established on the Oxley Highway in 1976 .
It was built by volunteers, and then moved to the current site in 1980 with two more rooms added — again by volunteers.
A wood working section was added later and now a State Government Community Building Partnership Grant – and a lot of work by members — has seen a comprehensive refurbishment of this much used facility.
It has been dubbed a true community enterprise: the Council has provided the land, local businesses have been generous with their donations, members have raised funds and contributed their labour, and a management committee keeps it all in order.
The Centre also supports many charities and community organisations with fundraising and gifts of warm garments and rugs.
Everyone is welcome to drop into one of the many art and craft sessions from Monday to Saturday — and try their hand at their chosen craft, with the help of the enthusiastic and friendly members.
The reopening will be on Saturday, June 23 at the Port Macquarie Art and Craft Centre, Corner of Gordon Street and Lake Road from 9am-3pm, with the official opening at 11am.
