Dragons regatta a flamin’ success

Flamin’ Dragons Dragon Boat Club recently held their Marathon and Sports Regatta on the Hastings River. Dragon Boat clubs from up and down the coast, as well as Sydney teams and even Outback dragons from Dubbo, attended the weekend of racing. On Saturday, June 9, it was Marathon racing; teams were racing up the Hastings past the Dennis Bridge and back down to McInherney Park. The first dragon boat to come in was Sydney Tsunami in 1 hour 28 mins, and the first outrigger came in at 1 hour 30 mins. A great day was had by all who participated, with trophies presented at Town Green Inn later that day.
On Sunday, June 10 it was another day of racing, with teams competing in a series of sprint races. Over the day, the racing was fast and furious, with teams vying for a spot in the finals. The results for the finals were: Sports Women – 1st place Hunter Dragons, Sports Men’s – 1st place Kempsey/ Nambucca Dragons, Sports Mixed – 1st place Hunter Dragons Red. There was also Pink Challenge for Breast Cancer survivors, with the winning team a combined team made up of paddlers from local and regional clubs, with Port’s Flamin’ survivors coming in second place. It was another great day of racing, with the sun shining the whole weekend. Trophies were presented once again at T’G’s Inn. Flamin’ Dragons would like to say thank you to Town Green Inn for their support and to all those involved in helping with the regatta.
