Congratulations this week to the Port Macquarie Community College which has been selected as a finalist in 2012 NSW Training Awards.
General Manager Leanne Alexander said, “The awards application is the perfect platform for us to showcase our College’s commitment to providing quality vocational education and training. We wanted to raise the profile of the college and this allows us a unique opportunity to celebrate our achievements with our dedicated staff, trainers and students. It also provides the College with networking opportunities and recognises excellence in the training sector. We are very excited and proud to have reached the next stage of the judging process.”
The NSW Training Awards are conducted annually by the NSW Department of Education and Communities (DEC) to recognise outstanding achievement in the vocational education and training sector. The Awards honour and reward the achievements of students, trainers/teachers, training organisations, large and small employers.
There are 13 Award categories and our local community college is a finalist in the “Small Training Provider of the Year” category. Leanne, Cheryl Eslick and Janette Jones will attend the awards presentation event on Tuesday, August 28 at Darling Harbour.
NSW winners will then move on to compete with winners from all states and territories for the Australian Training Awards which are being held in Melbourne in November.
The NSW Training Awards received a large number of entries this year and were judged by eleven regional VET promotional committees. These committees comprise staff of a variety of stakeholders in the VET system, such as Australian Apprenticeship Centres, training providers, employers and employer groups, industry bodies and State Training Services staff.
NSW has a proud history of celebrating excellence in vocational education and training since 1955. The Port Macquarie Community College has been committed to providing an educational service to the community of Port Macquarie and surrounding district since 1984. Their vocational courses on offer reflect the needs of local individuals, community groups, businesses and local industry.
Ms Alexander would like to thank the local community for its support and sees a bright future for the college. “We are actively networking with local business, providing customised training and workshops to suit their needs. Fortunately we are large enough to provide the quality facilities, courses and trainers, but small enough to provide the flexibility and personal service that employers and staff need to fit in with their busy schedules.”
