Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman near Coffs Harbour on Monday.
About 6.40am, emergency services were called to Dairyville Road, about 15km west of Coffs Harbour, after a 53-year-old woman was found lying near the road.
Police arrived a short time later and found the woman had died at the scene.
A crime scene was established and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating, with the assistance from the Forensic Services Group.
It is believed the woman was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop and assist her.
