Students rewarded for good deeds

Adam Burton, a Year 10 student at Westport High School, has recently achieved the highest award possible under the Premiers Volunteering Scheme – a Black Opal Certificate.
Only 38 students across the State of NSW have managed to achieve this award in its three-year history.
Students are rewarded for the volunteering tasks undertaken to support their local communities. Adam has been involved at Garden Village and Lifeline for more than 150 hours.
The category of Black Opal was designed to acknowledge extraordinary efforts.
Many other students also participated in the awards.
Students volunteer at Garden Village by helping residents play marpool and bingo, as well as reading to and playing dominoes with nursing home residents.
Other students volunteer at Westport Primary by assisting in the infants classrooms.
Diamond awards for 80 hours of community service were achieved by Dayna Anderson, Kaitlin Atkins, Rhian Hoy, Amy Madders, Jade McCombe, Kiarna Miller, Alison Skimmings, Grace Willcocks and Mary-anne Warner.
Gold certificates for 60 hours were awarded to Jacob Hamilton, Claudia Goshorn, Abbie Brown and Rhiannon Fecht. Silver awards for 40 hours of community service were achieved by Sean Harris, Erin Myles, Runah Stacey and Tristan Stone.
Bronze certificates for 20 hours were awarded to Zac Sutton, Mark Barber, Liam Totton, Connor Hancock and Brandon Thwaites.
