The New South Wales State Government has recently increased the daily system access charge to all electricity distribution networks.
They maintain that the network is not capable of sustaining the peak demands without extra work.
The peak loads that they are referring to are for very short periods and at only certain times of the day during mid-summer and mid-winter.
The option could be given to the customer to limit the load to the premises by the use of a fixed setting circuit breaker under the control of the distributor. The system access fee would relate directly to the maximum demand of the premises.
This is not a new idea and was used for many years in industrial situations. The answer is not to keep increasing the costs but to think outside the box.
