Election casualties

In May, the community was asked to nominate the personal attributes, skills or specifications they want to see in our councilors. Well, honesty and integrity came out on top. But it seems some of our candidates weren’t listening to their community. Backroom deals and covert alignments are the norm. What’s new?
Firstly, Mr Besseling (who is calling himself an Independent) works within Rob Oakeshott’s office who, as we all have so painfully seen, is in bed with the Gillard Labor Government and the Greens. Besseling has also accepted backing by the National Party stalwart; Jim Pearson Sr. Now Besseling has also recently stated he has formed a group. What part of “Independent” doesn’t Peter Besseling understand?
Secondly, in a letter to the editor (Independent dated July 19, 2012), Adam Roberts believes that Ms Lisa Intemann (standing as an individual — nice play on words) has strong support from the Residents Action Network (RAN) which is closely affiliated with the Greens.
Thirdly, on again — off again Mr Reg Pearce originally announced his decision to stand for Mayor until he received a better offer to stand for pre-selection as the National Party representative for the State Elections. Having failed at the pre-selection, he has announced he will now stand for Mayor again as an Independent and leave his National Party credentials at the door. Yeah, that works!
Déjà vu, remember when you thought you were voting for an “Independent” at the last Federal Elections but due to backroom deals and covert alignments, have suffered under a whole lot of Labor. It seems that some of our candidates for mayor and councillor have not learnt their lessons with being upfront and honest with the community.
I think they need to be taught a lesson in “Honesty and Integrity” by being voted into obscurity.
