Refuge’s gift from Bling girls

The Management and staff at the Hastings Women and Children’s Refuge were thrilled to unveil their brand new bathroom that was funded by money raised by local fundraising committee, Bling for the Girls.
After 19 years of service to thousands of women and children in the Port Macquarie Hastings community, the Refuge residential facility bathroom was beginning to show serious signs of age and decay.
“The women and children that use the Refuge are traumatised and exhausted and deserve to be welcomed into an environment which assures them that they are valued and cared for,” said Gemma Morley, Manager of the Hastings Women and Children’s Refuge.
“In their fundraising efforts, the Bling Committee have reached out and touched every woman and child who now uses our lovely bright, fresh new bathroom.”
Current residents of the Refuge were also thrilled with the new addition. They all eagerly awaited the bathroom renovations to be completed and had soothing candles and bath oil at the ready.
Refuge resident ‘Maz’ couldn’t have been more grateful for the residents’ new bathroom.
“When the way ahead seems at times unclear, the simple pleasures in life can sometimes be forgotten. But not this bath,” she told Refuge and Bling committee members at a morning tea to officially celebrate the new bathroom.
Project Managed by Scott Strahorn from Strahorn Constructions, the bathroom, which has been designed to accommodate more than one person at a time, now features a separate toilet, shower and a  bath as well as nappy changing facilities and a sink large enough to bathe an infant.
“Management and staff are so grateful to the Bling Committee for their support of women and children affected by domestic violence in our community” said Morley.
The next Bling event is to be held in November and, once again, they have plans to raise much needed fund for both the Hastings Women and Children’s Refuge and the Sexual Assault Service for Port Macquarie.
