For 50 years, cricket has been an absolute wicket in Harry Brady’s life — in a good way. Until now.
He is in a position where he needs the support of like-minded lovers to help the game.
Starting as a player at the age of 8, Harry has played, coached, managed, umpired and now finds himself in charge of recruiting cricket scorers in the Hastings.
He said it’s a void in desperate need of filling to keep the sport alive.
“I have always loved cricket and when I wasn’t playing there was always some other way of being involved in the game,” Brady said.
“Just because you can’t or don’t want to play anymore doesn’t mean you can’t be involved and we would love anyone interested in spending a beautiful Saturday afternoon watching the greatest game of all to contact us.”
The Hastings Umpires and Scorers Association is asking for past players, fans of the game or anyone interested in being a scorer for fourth grade through to first grade games to come forward.
Training will be provided as will transport to and from games if required.
Games are played on Saturday afternoons between 12.30 and 6pm with the first round starting in early October.
“Scorers don’t need to be available every week but I am sure that once they get to experience the friendship and excitement associated with each of the games that they will want to come back whenever they can,” Brady said.
