Fashion from a bygone era

Maureen Cooke shows a coat from her collection as she prepares for the Vintage Fashion Parade to be held at Panthers Auditorium on Saturday, September 15.

Tickets are selling fast for the Vintage Fashion Parade to be held at Port Macquarie Panthers Auditorium on Saturday, September 15, at 2pm.
The parade will feature some of Port Macquarie’s best kept secrets, over 100 garments from the private collection of Maureen Cooke. Maureen completed an apprenticeship with a local tailor before moving to Sydney and establishing her own fashion label ‘Maureen’s Models’.
Her achievements as a fashion designer and dress maker were acknowledged by the fashion industry at the time including winning the ACT Gown of the Year in 1970, however her success was not well known in her home town. The parade will provide the local community with a rare opportunity to view Maureen’s unique work and some of her collection which numbers around 300 garments including complete outfits with matching hats and gloves.
Tickets for the parade are available from Panthers reception or by phoning 6580 2300 and cost $30 ringside and $25 others. Entertainment and afternoon tea are included. Funds raised will go towards establishing an Endeavour Clubhouse, a mental health rehabilitation and recovery service for the Port Macquarie-Hastings community.
