A rickshaw is about to hit the schools and streets of Port Macquarie to raise awareness of Symbiosis International and the work they do among the poor and marginalised of Bangladesh. There will be a focus on the specific eye care program as part of the Australian Government’s Millennium Strategy for the Eradication of Poverty.
Earlier this year, nearly forty people attended an educational and inspirational breakfast with Keynote Speaker, Dr Morris Lee, Executive Officer Symbiosis International.
“One attendee Nail Bling owner, Corrine Gough, took the message to heart. She was so touched by the great work and tangible results that she has been fundraising for the past six months for Symbiosis” said Pix Jonasson, CEO Success Dynamics Group and Event Coordinator for the breakfast and rickshaw ride.
Ms Jonasson said “Ms Gough’s brother-in-law, John Gough and his faithful dog, George, a familiar sight to many in Port’s CBD, have been fundraising at Nail Bling and will now ride pride of place in an authentic rickshaw next month.”
“The Rickshaw and members of Symbiosis will be visiting Westport High, Port Macquarie High, Hastings Primary and St Columba Schools on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th September, finishing with a community event, The Rickshaw Ride, at Town Green on Saturday 15th September, 10am — 1pm” said Ms Jonasson.
“There will be face painting, henna tattoos, food/drinks, dancing, music, wares for sale, presentations and guest speakers, followed by The Rickshaw Ride along Horton and William Streets.
“Symbiosis has programs in adult literacy, health education, dental, maternal and eye care, technical training and teaching people improved ways to generate income for their families and has grown extensively, with over 230 people and 23 projects operating mainly among the rural poor of Bangladesh.”
