Wanted: Independent thinking councillors

On Saturday, we have the opportunity to elect councillors to represent us and address pertinent local issues.
However, I am concerned that once again, candidates are forming themselves into self-interest groups (in the hope that the voter will just place a ‘1’ above the line – effectively voting for the group as a whole). Unfortunately, such groups, if/ when elected then act as voting blocks rather than being the independent thinking councillors we need – councillors who properly appraise matters and vote according to their individual conscious having due regard to the concerns of their constituants and the likely impact of their decisions on the wider community.
Remember, last time we voted for groups, we got the ‘YES TEAM’ who delivered the Glasshouse (and it’s associated on-going heavy expenditure) together with shocking roads and high rates. Don’t let such a gerrymander happen here again, take the time and effort to select specific suitable candidates who will have your best interests at heart (not those of their party/group) and carefully exercise your vote by marking the ballot paper below the line  – numbering all 8 chosen contenders. Only then are we likely to achieve an effective council to represent us.
