Review plans for Lighthouse Road

The addition of a shared footpath/cycleway and a bus bay on Lighthouse Road are some of the ideas included in a concept plan for a major upgrade to Lighthouse Road.
The concept plan for the project, now on public exhibition, outlines a major upgrade between Pacific Drive and Matthew Flinders Drive that would include pavement strengthening and re-surfacing with asphaltic concrete and improvements to the road alignment where possible.
Mayor Peter Besseling said the upgrade would improve safety and access for a significant number of residents but stressed the project is in early stages of development.
“The public exhibition of the concept plan and a community meeting to hear residents’ views are very important stages of this potential upgrade.
“It’s important that we work with residents to look at the benefits and challenges to this project and ensure that all views and options are captured before Council determines scheduling of the works,” said Councillor Besseling.
The concept plan is on public exhibition until November 12 and can be viewed at the Council office and library in Port Macquarie, or downloaded from Council’s website. At this stage the project is proposed to commence within the 2013-2014 financial year.
A community meeting to discuss the concept plan and to invite comments from members of the public will be held in the Function Room at Council’s Administration Centre, Burrawan Street, Port Macquarie at 7pm on Thursday, October 18.
More information about the proposed upgrade and community information session, including RSVP details, can be found on Council’s website, www.pmhc.nsw.gov.au within the ‘On Exhibition’ link on the main page.
