Staff at Port Macquarie Base Hospital have put their culinary talents to the test, sharing their favourite recipes with the community.
The first edition of ‘What’s Cooking at Port Macquarie Base Hospital”’was launched with morning tea at The Westport Club last month. As a special treat, members of the Westport Ladies Bowls Club created some of the recipes in the book to serve at the launch.
The culinary delights ranged from apricot oat bars and vanilla slices, to chocolate toffee bars and Dorothy’s Banana Cake.
Staff members at the Base Hospital have been providing their recipes over the years, but it was sponsorship from The Westport Club that finally enabled the book to come to fruition. The collection of favourites features more than 100 recipes in categories such as entrees, soups, snacks, mains, desserts, cakes and salads, plus some extras including sundried tomato and camembert fondue.
Port Macquarie Base Hospital Director of Nursing, Terry O’Shea, has congratulated staff in the Nursing Administration Department for their efforts in overseeing the project. “We’re thankful to the former Deputy Director of Nursing, Glenys Moore, who created the idea and particularly grateful to Jane Carney and Vicki Newton for turning the concept into a reality,” Mr O’Shea said.
Copies of ‘What’s Cooking at Port Macquarie Base Hospital’ cost $10 and are available from the all sections hospital, the North Coast Cancer Institute and The Westport Club. All proceeds from the sale of the cookbooks will be used to support the professional development of nurses at the hospital.
