The 2012 season officially came to an end for Port United on Saturday evening, with the club’s senior presentation taking place at the Tacking Point Tavern. As well as celebrating the season just gone, a number of awards were handed out to players in the club’s five senior squads and also the U18s.
Simon Granfield was named First Grade Player of the Year, whilst James O’Connor landed the Coaches Award in the top grade. O’Connor’s brace of goals against Port FC in the elimination derby final that secured a great 3-2 comeback win after being 2-0 down was noted as one of the highlights of the season by coach Greg Baldwin.
Talented youngster Brock Longworth added his name to an impressive honour roll in seasons gone by, when he picked up the Rookie of the Year award. Longworth was also named Reserve Grade Player of the Year and also had an impressive season for the club’s U18 side. Fellow youngster Josh Casey was awarded the Coaches Award in Reserve Grade.
Off the field, club secretary Justin McIntyre was presented with the President’s Trophy for services to the club across the season. And the club recognised and handed out three more awards to players for 10 years of service in the junior ranks to U18 players – Liam Clarke, Liam Wright and Jack Connolly. The trio join U16 players who received awards at junior presentation for their 10 years at the club – Eli Wade, Rory Thompson, Josh Goninon, Lachy Gamack, Travis Nicholson, Jamie Carroll, Ben Robinson, Kurt Nocelli and Jordan Hanimair.
