In October, Redlands Lions held their annual Lions District 201Q1 Convention at Sheldon College Thornlands, Brisbane. The Convention is the occasion for Lions members from the District to come together in friendship, with ideas to share and opportunities to learn, in order to continue to grow and celebrate achievements. The weekend was also the ideal opportunity to celebrate the wonderful successes of the District. It also provided highlights of youth achievements. These youth, it is hoped, will one day carry on the Lions motto of “We serve – because we care”.
St Joseph’s Year 11 student Sophie Sims, who was this year’s District Leo of the Year winner, was presented with the perpetual trophy at the Convention by District Leo Governor, Mr Merv Ferguson.
Principal of St Joseph’s School Michael McCarthy said, “This is an exceptional achievement. Indeed, Sophie is the first student in the history of the school to receive the award. This award is testament to not only the array of talent at St Joseph’s, but what is possible for students of a small, rural school.”
