Last Monday, three Port Macquarie girls competed in the World Championship Triathlon in Auckland, New Zealand. There were over 3000 competitors competing in the Aquathlon World Championships, the Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships and the Olympic Distance World Championships.
Belinda Johnson and Melinda Cockshutt took out the Gold Medals in their respective age groups (30-34 and 35-39) in the aquathlon. Kate Lister came 14th in the 30-34 age group. The aquathlon is: 1km swim and 5km run. Kate’s performance was very impressive, given she learnt to swim only a few years ago.
Melinda Cockshutt then went on to win the Olympic Distance Triathlon (1.5km swim, 40km cycle, 10km run) in the 35-39 year age group. Mel won by one second to a Canadian and American. Bel came 5th and Kate finished.
