Focus on Glasshouse finances

A report detailing a new financial reporting structure for the Glasshouse was presented at the final meeting of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council for 2012.

General Manager Tony Hayward was requested to prepare a report on the status of the Glasshouse finances at the October Council meeting.

The report outlines the facility’s future financial reporting capabilities, with a specific focus on community, commercial and Council activity.

Mr Hayward said operating the Glasshouse as a business unit under Council’s Corporate and Business Services division, with a core focus on specific delivery areas, will allow for higher level management of financial performance and efficiency of individual activities, events and performances.

“It is considered that a change in the way we manage finances at the Glasshouse will allow for better management decision making in terms of resource allocation and setting strategic direction and performance targets for the facility. This will complement the community and cultural commitments relevant to the centre,” Mr Hayward said.

“Work is underway to improve the way in which we report on key Glasshouse activities, including costing labour and marketing according to activity; accurately charging internal service provision; accounting for sponsorship; and ensuring that Council use of the facility is recognised as a commercial activity.”

A report providing more detailed financial information will be tabled at Council in February 2013.

Cr Adam Roberts suc-cessfully moved that a com-munity engagement process on the future direction of the Glasshouse be conducted in the first quarter of 2013 in order to develop a strategic plan for the facility.
