Surf’s up for the girls

Mid-North Coast Girls Surfriders recently held their annual presentation under beautiful blue skies at the picturesque at Rainbow Beach Bonny Hills.

A delicious breakfast including bacon and egg rolls and fresh fruit platters set the atmosphere for the morning. Each division was hotly contested with only one point being the difference between first and second places. In the Mini Mal Jade Gaul and Chlesea Green were awarded equal 1st as we could not split them after a countback on the overall judging sheets throughout the year.

Standout awards also included the club’s youngest surfing member Ally Knox. Ally placed 2nd in the beginner girls’ caddy division surfing consistently throughout the year. Ally was surfing on a beginner girls’ soft board but, as the year progressed, so did her surfing. Ally is now surfing on a fibreglass board demonstrating some very tricky manoeuvres including switch foot, and trimming right and left on not only the white water but on green ones as well. A future world champion in the making!

Rookie of the Year, Lucy Green, is another surfing champion in the making. Lucy’s surfing started in the beginner girls, caddy and placed 1st but as her surfing and confidence grew she surfed in the beginner girls no caddy division and placed 3rd. Lucy also represented the Mid-North Coast Girls Surfriders in Sydney, Central Coast, Coffs Harbour in her respective age divisions and excelled, thus being the worthy recipient for Rookie of the Year.

The Club is also very proud and wish to congratulate the Mid-North Coast Girls Surfriders who competed in the SLSA Country Titles held at Smokey Cape in January 2013.

Under 13 Shortboard Division – Chelsea Green – Gold

Under 14 Shortboard Division – Kelsea Peck – Gold

Under 15 Shortboard Division – Taylee Eames – Gold / Jade Gaul – Silver / Eliza Hopwood 4th

Mahala Hopwood, Grace Monaghan and Hanna Lindeman also competed and performed to their best of their ability.
