Sydney Swans Community Camp hits Port and Laurieton

The Sydney Swans came to Port Macquarie and Laurieton on Monday and Tuesday for the 2013 AFL Community Camp.

The entire Swans squad spread their wings around New South Wales on Monday, February 18 and Tuesday, February 19.

For two days the Swans were out in the community visiting schools, hospitals, local clubs, running AFL clinics and getting to know local fans.

Swans defender and premiership player Nick Smith said the players looked forward to the camp.

“This year’s Community Camp sees my teammates and me spread far and wide around the State as we get out into the community to meet the fans,” he said.

Smith was a star in the Swans’ victory against the highly-favoured Hawthorn Hawks at the
MCG last September and did a great job containing Hawks’ dangerman, Cyril Rioli.

Smith was joined by Andrejs Everitt. Everitt played in 12 of the Swans’ first 16 games, taking him past 50 for his career. His shining moment was the game-winning goal from a tight angle after coming on as a fourth-quarter substitute against Geelong in Round 13.

They were joined by fellow clubmen Alex Brown and rookie list player Dane Rampe.

The two local camps with Swans players in attendance were as follows:

• Monday, February 18, 4.30pm to 6pm, at Wayne Richards Park, Port Macquarie, AFL clinic.

• Tuesday, February 19, 4pm to 5pm, at Laurieton Oval, Laurieton, AFL clinic.

AFL on the Mid-North Coast continues to grow and there are plenty of options available for players five years and up to get involved.

In both Port and Camden Haven, players can also participate in the Under 18 and Senior divisions.

Any interested junior or senior players should enquire about registrations in their
local district,” Mid-North Coast development officer, Rachel Lowe said.
